The prolific 28-year-old striker has spent the last two seasons with Borussia Dortmund and has been a regular scorer for the Bundesliga side following his transfer from Rennes in the summer of 2006. Before moving to France he played for FC Basel, Thun, Luzern and Servette. Frei was involved in a spitting incident against England at Euro 2004 - although he was cleared by UEFA after initially receiving a 15-day provisional ban. Frei was also alleged to have made obscene gestures to Turkey coach Fatih Terim during the World Cup 2006 play-off encounter. He has been a prolific scorer for the national team netting on average more than a goal every other game.
