Rugged Barcelona stopper Carles Puyol is the classic one-club man and holds the record for the most number of caps won by a Catalan for Spain. Blessed with neither height nor outstanding pace, Puyol has made his reputation as a tough tackler with keen positional sense, having been converted from a right-back into a reliable centre-half. Has featured at the last two World Cup finals tournaments as well as Euro 2004, but has been unable to help Spain shrug off their unwanted tag of under-achievers, having won around 60 caps to date.
