Konstantin Zyrianov started his career as a striker, before establishing himself as a defensive midfielder. The 30-year-old began his career at FC Amkar Perm scoring 48 goals in 171 appearances. In 2000 he signed for FC Torpedo and made 164 appearances with the club, before signing for Zenit St Petersburg in 2007, helping them win the 2008 Russian Championship. Zyrianov made his international debut against Spain in May 2006, and played a vital role in Russia's 2-1 defeat of England during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. Zyrianov was brought down in the penalty area by Wayne Rooney to set up Russia's equaliser in the match.
