A versatile player, Bilyaletdinov can play on the left wing, in the centre of midfield or in his most comfortable position, just behind the strikers. He made his international debut in 2005 and has become an established regular in the national side. He played 10 out of 12 Euro 2008 qualifiers, including both matches versus England, and scored his first international goal against Israel on 17 November 2007. The 23-year-old has been at Lokomotiv Moscow throughout his career, making his debut for the Russian club in 2004 and helped them win the Russian Championship in 2004.
