Andrei Arshavin has spent his entire career at Zenit St Petersburg, making his debut for the first team in an Intertoto Cup game against Bradford City in August 2000, which FC Zenit won 3-0. Arshavin started his career as a right-sided midfielder, then as an attacking midfielder, and in 2003, he adopted a second striker's role playing on a flank or behind a target man. In the 2007 Russian Premier League season Arshavin guided his Zenit St Petersburg side to the title, starting all 30 matches, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists along the way. It was the club's first league title since claiming the now defunct Soviet Top League in 1984 and Arshavin won the Russian Premier League Award for the player of the season. Arshavin made his debut for the national squad in May 2002 against Belarus and became Russia captain in a Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia in March 2007. He was an everlasting presence during the qualifying campaign playing in all 12 qualifiers and scoring three times.
