Shirokov was a surprise inclusion in Guus Hiddink's squad after failing to make an appearance in any of Russia's qualifiers for this summer's tournament. The 26-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, has had a chequered career at club level after coming through the youth team ranks at CSKA Moscow. He had seven different clubs before joining Zenit St Petersburg earlier this year from FK Khimki and helping the club win the UEFA Cup.
