The Werder Bremen striker has broken into the Portugal side in the last 12 months, starting his country's last three Euro 2008 qualifiers against Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Armenia. His career failed to take off at FC Porto and he was loaned out to Uniao Leiria and Boavista before being sent out to Bremen for the 2006-07 campaign. He was an immediate success in the Bundesliga, scoring ten times in his debut campaign, and penned a permanent four-year contract with the club last summer. Almeida became a first-team regular following Miroslav Klose's move to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2007.
