Knee and foot problems restricted the 24-year-old forward to just 20 Premier League starts in the recently-completed season, but he ended the season on a high with a string of starts during the final month of the campaign. Van Persie has been around the international squad since 2005 and found the net four times during the qualification campaign for Euro 2008. Despite being a out-and-out striker, he is normally employed on the left of the three-man attacking unit favoured by coaches of the international side. He does have the reputation of scoring important goals for both club and country and has a powerful shot from his favoured left foot.
