Used on the left of a three pronged attack, Di Natale has been given a new lease of life at international level under the stewardship of new manager Roberto Donadoni. Despite making his debut in 2002 it wasn't until the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign that the 30-year-old made an impact at international level, playing eight times and scoring twice. His role is much like a second striker, where he can use his pace and passing ability to break through the opposition defence and feed main striker Luca Toni. Italy never scored less than two goals when Di Natale started matches in qualifying and this record is what threatens Alessandro Del Piero - his most obvious rival for the left-sided attacking role. His form for Udinese, where he has played since leaving Empoli in 2004, will have also increased his chances of a starting role this summer.
