The 31-year-old has emerged as France's number one right-back since Lilian Thuram was switched in to central defence by Raymond Domenech. Sagnol, who began his career with St Etienne, is equally happy attacking as he is defending. He was included in the French squads at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, and Euro 2004.
