The 31-year-old has emerged as France's number one right-back since Lilian Thuram was switched in to central defence by Raymond Domenech. The stylish Bayern Munich defender has spent the last eight years with the Bundesliga giants since moving to Germany from AS Monaco. Sagnol, who began his career with St Etienne, is equally happy attacking as he is defending. He was included in the French squads at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, and Euro 2004. Sagnol has vast Champions League experience with Bayern, including a winner's medal after Bayern defeated Valencia in the 2001 final
