The 27-year-old Lyon defender broke in to the national team in 2004, but has only been an unused substitute during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. Unable to establish himself as a regular at former club Monaco, he made his name on loan at AC Ajaccio where he helped the club win the French Second Division title six years ago. In 2002, he established himself as a first choice centre back at Monaco, helping them finish second in the league and featured on the European stage during their remarkable run to the Champions League Final in 2004. After a disappointing 10th place league finish in 2006, Squillaci opted to play elsewhere and signed a four year contract with Lyon in the summer of 2006.
