The Fiorentina goalkeeper received his first call-up for France against Poland in November 2004 but did not play, having to wait until the final Euro 2008 qualifier against Ukraine on November 21, 2007 to earn his first cap. The 28-year-old began his career with French side Cannes in 1997, at the age of seventeen, and following two promising seasons he moved to Italy with Internazionale. Having had spells at Verona and Parma, Frey moved to Fiorentina in the summer of 2005. His outstanding performances in the past season have formed the backbone of the Florence team and helped the club finish fourth in Serie A above AC Milan.
