Boumsong made his international debut against Japan in June 2003 and was a member of the squad for Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup, but his only appearance within both tournaments was as a substitute in the former. Having started his career at Le Havre and Auxerre, the 28-year-old enjoyed a short spell with Rangers and a disastrous time with Newcastle. In August 2006 the defender moved to Juventus, who had just been relegated to Serie B, helping them regain their top-flight status. However, because of a lack of first-team action since promotion with the Italian side, Boumsong signed for Lyon in January 2008. Having made his only Euro 2008 qualifying appearance in October 2006, Boumsong is a surprise addition to Raymond Domenech's squad for Euro 2008.
