German-born striker who has overcome serious illness to take his place in the 23-man squad. Klasnic was a member of the 2006 World Cup squad but has hardly featured for the national side since after suffering kidney failure. The Werder Bremen striker underwent a transplant in March 2007 and spent six months out of the game before making his comeback towards the end of the recently completed season. The powerful striker, who has won over 30 international caps, proved his class with eight goals in 17 appearances for the Bundesliga side. However, he is hoping to use the tournament as a shop window after revealing a desire to move on from Werder this summer.
