Hickersberger set to leave

Austria coach Josef Hickersberger has revealed his intention to make way for a successor following his side's exit from Euro 2008.

The co-hosts failed to qualify for the knockout stages after securing just one point from their three group games and Hickersberger is ready to end his second stint in charge of the national side.

"A team boss has to measure whether he has achieved his goals or not," he told Austrian radio. "I don't know if it is right that I should stay on as head coach.

"If someone else was to become the coach, I would be a happy man.

"I would be relieved if the Austrian Football Federation said someone else takes over the job. I gave my best but it was not enough."

Hickersberger has guided Austria to just five wins in 27 matches since he returned to the post in January 2006.
