Fans force Streller to call time
Switzerland striker Marco Streller has confirmed that he will retire from international football following this summer's European Championship finals.
The 26-year-old frontman has grown tired of the reaction of some Swiss fans to his efforts, with the final straw constant heckling during the recent 3-0 warm-up win over Liechtenstein.
Streller told Swiss TV: "I can't play anymore in this kind of atmosphere. After Euro 2008 I'm definitely closing the book on my international career.
"I have talked to the rest of the team about this and I have been thinking about it for a long time. I just won't put up with it anymore."
Streller currently plays his club football for FC Basel, having also enjoyed spells in Germany with VfB Stuttgart and Koln.
