The Chappers' Blog - June 9th
Four games in gone in Euro 2008 and already I am wondering whether any match will see both teams scoring. At the moment you know that as soon as a team takes the lead then that is it they will win the game. Maybe now we get to see the sides in the bottom half of the draw that will change. It was fairly obvious that Portugal, the Czech Republic, Germany and Croatia would win over the weekend, although it still took a great amount of skill to get all four results right in Premier 10!!!!
The next four games are a little bit harder to gauge but I am sticking with my prediction that Romania are Group C's dark horses and will make the group of death even deathlier. I am not convinced by the French despite them having one of the best strikers in Europe in their squad (that's Benzema, not Anelka). Also Raymond Domenech is very keen on astrology and I am not really sure astrology fits that well alongside Prozone and hi-energy isotonic drinks in preparing an international side. Apparently Domenech is not very keen on playing a leo in defence because he thinks they will show off. Yet he still picks Jean-Alain Boumsong.
We should see the best football of the tournament so far over the next 48 hours until we get to Sweden against Greece which has the potential to be the dullest game ever played at an international tournament. I was hoping it was going to clash with the Apprentice final so I would have something else to watch but unfortunately it doesn't.
The most exciting thing about that game will probably be the kick off as the tournament directors have decided to film the start of each match from a camera that is about 9 miles up in the sky. Artistic it maybe but it nauseating if you suffer from vertigo and they have nicked the idea from Sky's Premier League All Stars where not only was the camera up in the air on kick off, the ball was too. Then it was dropped on the sound of a klaxon onto the head of some megastar celebrity footballer like Lee from Steps and the game began. Maybe they could try that for the Sweden/Greece game.

I thought that Romania were Des's dark horses? None of the teams so far look much cop at the back, Portugal and Germany could have conceded. Without Cannavaro as the outstanding defender which are the top notch defenders - if there aren't that many we should see lots of goals unlike your pessimistic summary....

Oh dear - looks like Des was right, Italy and France out in the first round with Holland and Romania through. France were terrible, Italy weren't but can you see anything more than a nil nil when France and Italy meet and cancel each other out?

Deathiest team entry - France 84; best midfield going, with Platini at his best, unlike his current miserable self!

What did you think about the Dutch performance then and do you feel any side can stop those damn Germans! They are like watching Chelsea, robotic yet usually win zzzzz!

Do you feel there is a better strikeforce than Villa and Torres in Euro 2008 or thinking about it, world football in general?
